North Cyprus offers a range of activities, suitable for thrill seekers and more subdued visitors.
Take advantage of the official walking trail across the Besparmak Range to explore NCY at an altitude. On the way to a safe landing, glide from eight hundred meters with a professional pilot while admiring the magnificent views the island has to offer. The island’s most prestigious championship golf course is carved into a natural forest of umbrella pines, carobs, and olive trees, between the Mediterranean and Five Finger Mountains. Venture out on your own adventure or follow one of the myriads of routes, on a bike on your own, or on a group tour. Take a guided tour on horseback around historical highlights or discover unspoiled landscapes. Alternatively, join a quad bike safari day trip for a guaranteed thrill. Try your patience and precision at archery or even clay pigeon shooting.
There are plenty of sporting activities to keep children and adults entertained when visiting North Cyprus. Try paintballing or racing round a go-kart track with the family.
Paragliding has become one of the most exciting ways to see the breathtaking views the island has to offer.
The two main jump sites up in North Cyprus are on the Besparmak Mountain range, west of St. Hilarion castle, at 2,500 and 2,600 feet. Another possible jump is over the sand dunes of the Karpaz, which is a gentler low-flying glide.
Whether you want a gentle scenic flight or an adrenaline joy ride over the landing site, your pilot can tailor your flight to suit your desire.
After an easy take-off, you will be treated to the spectacular NCY scenery, all the way to a gentle landing.
Some paragliding offices are located at Kyrenia Harbour. Jump days and times are determined as per weather conditions therefore it is advised to book in advance. You will also have the opportunity to treasure the occasion with photos and filming of the jump.
Whilst this may seem like an extreme activity more appealing to the younger generation, you would be surprised at those who have taken the plunge.
A local NCY resident from Stirling Scotland, Peggy McAlpine, held the record for being the world's oldest paraglide.
Making the jump on her 100th birthday in 2008 actually put her into the Guinness Book of World Records.
This was topped by a 101-year-old from Utah USA, however, not to be outdone Peggy regained her world title with yet another tandem paraglide in Kyrenia at the age of 104 years 168 days, on 14 April 2012.
She sadly passed away a year later as the oldest member of the Royal British Legion and the world’s oldest paraglider, a record she still retains to the day.
Horse riding in North Cyprus is a fun and inspiring activity that will allow you to revel in the beauty of Cypriot nature. The three main riding clubs on the island located in Çatalköy, Karaoğlanoğlu, and Kozan, all offer unique occasions. From basic riding lessons to guided tours around historical highlights or discovering unspoiled landscapes from the top of pine-clad mountains on horseback, this experience is one for the family or the romantic couple alike.
